2012 in Five Movements

Video

2012. The year through a symphony of kinetic snapshots in five movements. 1. Dragon boat race on the Potomac – GO!!!!! 2. Arlington County carnival. 3. A brief interlude on the Potomac down in Alexandria. 4. The Clarendon street fest featuring a spinning class to flog health club memberships (it was better than milling crowds). 5. The Marine Corps Marathon après fini mob in Rosslyn.

2012 and Camera

Standard

2012 as it unfolded before my camera. There are odd shots, artsy shots,  slice-of-life shots, shots that happened to catch my fancy and multiple shots of some local events (with all these shots, it’s lucky this isn’t a drinking game). The local events: Dragon boat race on the Potomac,  Civil war re-enactor weirdos in Arlington, Rosslyn Jazz Fest, Arlington Carny Fair, Glen Echo art decco, Clarendon Street Fest, Marine Corps Marathon après fini crowds and some storms and damage. The musical accompaniment is Megamix by Jean Michel Jarre.

Great Falls, Maryland

Video

Great Falls, Maryland. The cataracts where the Potomac River crashes and splashes through rocks, boulders and chutes. The other side of the river is ingeniously named Great Falls, Virginia. Actually, I’m testing a new camera, editing application and video format under the guise of mouse-click tourism. Don’t tell anyone, OK.

Snowmageddon 2010

Video

6 February 2010 Arlington, Virginia – The biggest, bloody snow storm since the last Ice Age (and without hyperbole, mate). Odin must have been angry. Wear appropriate clothing when viewing this video to avoid frost bite. The musical accompaniment is Unstoppable by E. S. Posthumus.

Bike Race

Video

Arlington, Virginia. In Clarendon (or Bankrupt Row, speaking in future tense) bike was pitted against velo, pitted against fiets, pitted against the spectators’ threshold of boredom. Round and round and round… The musical accompaniment is Zazie Fait De La Bicyclette by Les Plastiscines.

Vroom Vroom

Video

Suddenly, the crickets were silenced. Birds stopped singing. Pets cowered in basements. Windows slammed shut and doors locked, while humble townsfolk hid beneath their beds. From over the horizon came the approach of an ominous rumbling. They were back. The moto hordes. And the muscular musical accompaniment is Moto Shagg by April March.

Marine Corps Marathon 2006

Standard

The annual Marine Corps Marathon on a breezy Sunday of 29 oktober 2006, starting and finishing in Arlington, Virginia. Around 24,00 participants from all over, padded the roads – serious runners, casual runners, one day of the year off the couch runners and even once in a life time runners. A peoples’ masochistic run. The musical accompaniment is On Savait (Devenir Grand) by La Grande Sophie, wrapped up with a portion of Tiger Rag by Benny Goodman.
